OF#36 – Printing Mastery, Character Arcs, and Intergalactic Interviewing
What does masterful woodblock printing look like? What makes Princess Carolyn such a compelling character? And would the Galactic Federation let us in?
Hi there, I’m Thomas Najar. Welcome to issue 36 of Open Frame.
It’s been great fun producing this newsletter, and I’ve received a lot of positive feedback. It’s also true that I’m spending less time on the Internet than ever before. I don’t have as much content to share, and producing Open Frame is less of a priority for me than it used to be.
It’s been a thrill to share cool stuff with you these last months. Thanks for reading. Open Frame is officially on hiatus until further notice. Please do keep in touch.
Printing Mastery
The high point of publishing Open Frame was when I shared images from a new 622-page compendium of Japanese woodblock prints by publisher Taschen. A few weeks later, several of my closest friends sent me a copy. The prints are breath-taking, but how are they made?
Character Arcs
I recently finished watching Season 6 of Bojack Horseman, which IndieWire crowned as the greatest animated series of all time. It was a show that had it’s peaks and valleys, but the storytelling was superb.
Of the many characters on Bojack, which had the most fascinating arc? Why, Princess Carolyn, of course!
(spoiler alert: make sure to watch the series first.)
Tweet of the week
Do you think they’ll let us in?
Well, that’s it for now folks. Thanks again for offering your attention and support.
Be well, and stay safe.
Thomas
